Hello all my dear friends!! As most of you may already know a very dear, close friend of mine is fighting stage 4 cancer. Tara's cancer doctor says that she believes Tara will be able to beat it given her age, relatively good health otherwise, and the treatments she is receiving. But Tara needs help from us too. She is need of groceries, toiletries, and dog food (she has a loving Lab mix that stays by her side at night). She is living with her parents and lost her job last year. She was on unemployment until it ran out a couple of months ago, so she has no medical insurance. Her family and a few other friends from the local congregation are showing their support as best they can but it is taking a tole on them as you can imagine. She has qualified for Medicaid and Social Security Disability but neither has become effective as of yet. The Medicaid was supposed to be effective as of July 1 but it still has not kicked in. They are paying everything out of pocket for her visits to various doctors and all of her medication. She has been in the hospital twice since April and just recently got out after being in for two weeks. I don't know if any of you have ever had a loved one or someone you're really close to on a daily basis, suffer from cancer or any other kind of desease, but watching and listening to my friend go through so much pain, hurt and uncertainty is the scariest thing I've ever known. And you know what, despite all of this, she manages to put on a smile and laugh. So much so in fact that her cancer doctor's nurse practitioner asked her how she stays so positive. He noticed many friends visiting and even certain ones staying over night with her but he was still curious. She told him she has great support from people that love her but most importantly she is one of Jehovah's Witnesses. To her surprise he told her that he just knew that she was! He is familiar with the truth and has even studied. What a wonderful witness Tara has given for Jehovah!! She has also taken a stand against the use of blood transfusions in her treatment. The hospital staff, not her doctors, have recommended several times to her that she really should get a blood transfusion. But she continually stands firm for Jehovah! Friends and family of mine, below is a link to a website that my sister, Jill, has created, for anyone who can help financially. There is a picture of Tara on it and a button that says "Donate". It allows you to send money to us via Paypal. If you dont have a Paypal account it's really easy to get started, or you can send the donations to me. Either way we'll be forwarding everything to Tara. She doesnt know we're doing this by the way. Neither does her family. We want to surprise her. I also want to suggest that if anyone can't help out with money, making them a dinner and taking it over, or I'll pick it up from you and take it to them, or just sending a card of encouragement would mean a lot. I know first hand that these are financially difficult times for almost everyone but anything you can do would be a blessing for Tara and her family. Especially just keeping them in your prayers. If you have any questions for me, please let me know. I love you all! Joy R.
